Instagram Account Login Issues

(Invalid Credentials or Secret Key)

Written By Antoine Wave

Last updated 9 months ago

When you add an Instagram account to Wave, we first try to log in using the information you provided:

  • username

  • password

  • secret key (2FA)

If something goes wrong, the account status will show either Invalid credentials or Invalid secret key. You will receive an email.

If you run into any issue while connecting your account, feel free to reach out using the chat.

❌ Invalid Credentials

This means the username or password is incorrect.

How to fix it:

  • Double-check the username and password

  • Make sure there are no extra spaces or typos

Once corrected, update the credentials and try again.

❌ Invalid Secret Key

This means the username and password are correct, but the secret key used for 2FA is invalid.

How to fix it:

After updating the secret key, Wave will retry the connection.

If you already have 2FA activated with an authenticator app, you need to remove it and create a new one.

✅ Account status explained

Once the issue is resolved, the account status will update automatically:

  • Logged In → credentials are correct and Wave successfully logged into the account.

  • Warming Up → Wave is connecting to your account using the selected country and city and starting the warm-up process.
During this phase, Wave performs light activity (scrolling, viewing posts, reels, etc.).
This usually lasts a few hours.

  • Connected → the warm-up is complete and the account is fully connected. It is now able to send DMs 🌊

⏳ When will DMs start sending?

In most cases, when you add an account on a given day, it will be ready to send DMs the next day.

This gives Wave enough time to complete the warm-up process and keep your account safe.
It’s completely normal if no DMs are sent immediately after launching a campaign.
